Description | A patent attorney has filed a ballot measure that, if approved by voters, would dramatically alter Colorado's legislative makeup, including increasing the number of members and eliminating party affiliation for a certain percentage of the elected bodies.
Attorney D'Arcy Straub's proposal also calls for some members to serve at large, for the governor to designate a "private organization" to select the at- large candidates and for the state to do background checks on at-large candidates at the private organization's request.
"It seems like this country is being torn apart by partisan politics," Straub said Wednesday. "This is the way to limit the power of the political parties." |
