DescriptionConservativeHome has just completed the most authoritative survey so far of the political views of the next generation of Tory MPs. 144 of our candidates in the 220 most winnable seats completed a confidential survey and their answers are recorded in this PDF. Key findings are illustrated below:

81% support greater use of nuclear power; 8% do not.

62% say same-sex couples should be given the same benefits as married couples; 31% disagree.

54% say the Union should be defended at all costs; 46% would not be "uncomfortable about Scotland becoming independent."

10% want status quo with EU; 47% want repatriation of powers from EU; 38% want fundamental renegotiation; 5% want withdrawal.

58% agree the Iraq War was wrong 'in retrospect.'

47% would have voted for Obama; 47% would not.

37% are sympathetic to relaxing the law on cannabis for medical purposes; 6% support relaxation for medical and recreational uses; 28% want no change in cannabis laws; 29% want cannabis laws toughened.
