Description | King County executive candidate Susan Hutchison, accusing the county government of becoming an obstacle to business, said today she would shorten the time needed to obtain land-use permits and would work for tax relief for small businesses.
She said the county once attracted "some of the world's greatest companies," like Boeing, Microsoft and Amazon.com.
Hutchison, a former KIRO-TV news anchor, was backed by a group of supporters as she stood outside the left-field entrance to Safeco Field and pledged to work with the Legislature to exempt start-up companies from the business-and-occupation tax and to exempt businesses with revenues under $250,000. (The current threshold is $28,000.)
State Rep. Ross Hunter, one of Hutchison's opponents for county executive, responded with a press release noting that King County has no control over state business taxes.
"If Hutchison wants to change the B&O threshold," he suggested, "she should run for the Legislature, not King County executive. King County is facing crucial transportation, social-services and budget issues that need to be addressed immediately." |
