Description | In what one observer said has now become “a battle of two titans,” Mayor Willie Herenton completed required Federal Election Commission paperwork Thursday to make a run for Congress against U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen.
The paperwork declares that he is an official candidate for the 9th District seat and ends his exploratory committee status under federal election law, which had allowed him to raise only limited amounts of money.
Herenton, who will challenge Cohen in the August 2010 Democratic primary, was unavailable for comment.
Cohen said Thursday night that he was not surprised and welcomed Herenton to the race. |
