Description | MONTGOMERY -- Almost three years to the day after he was badly beaten in his bid to win the Republican Party nomination for governor, Roy Moore will try a second time.
"Alabama has always been about leadership and what's right and, with that in mind, I'm announcing my decision. I will run for governor," Moore told a cheering crowd of about 125 who responded by shouting repeatedly, "We want Moore! We want Moore!"
Moore, who formally declared his candidacy at noon at a downtown Montgomery hotel, downplayed questions about his defense of publicly displaying the Ten Commandments, the issue that catapulted him into the spotlight a decade ago. Instead, he talked of the need to rebuild Alabama's economy, improve its schools and exercise its sovereignty as a state. |
