Description | The surging campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean has gained momentum among New Jersey voters, but the state's electorate appears willing to support any of the top contenders against President Bush, The Record Poll has found.
The former Vermont governor drew 19 percent of the vote in a hypothetical primary contest against the eight other announced Democratic candidates, his best showing yet in a New Jersey poll. However, Sens. Joseph I. Lieberman of Connecticut and John Kerry of Massachusetts followed closely with 15 percent and 14 percent, respectively, both within the poll's margin of error. Retired Gen. Wesley Clark polled only slightly lower, at 13 percent.
"I do not see any scenario of Bush winning in New Jersey right now," Ali said. "As much credibility as President Bush got in terms of post 9/11, they don't like him. It's anyone but Bush."
