Description | After a 15-year marriage and a year-long separation, Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon and his wife, Christa Severns, will file for divorce today, The Arizona Republic has learned.
The two will continue to share custody of their 9-year-old son, Jake.
"We've been separated for quite awhile and determined it is best to end the marriage," said Severns, 45, who met Gordon, then a businessman, while working on former Mayor Terry Goddard's 1990 campaign for governor. "We care very much about each other and we will continue as good friends. We appreciate people's best wishes and understanding."
It is the second divorce for the 57-year-old Gordon, who also has three adult children from his first marriage to Debbie Gordon. The mayor could not immediately be reached for comment.
"Christa and the mayor remain good and great friends and take particular joy in raising their son, Jake, together," said Gordon spokesman Scott Phelps. "This is obviously a very personal matter and, beyond that, the mayor will offer no public comment." |
