Former Rep. Ed Case (D-Hawaii) announced Saturday that he will run to fill the House seat being vacated by Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii).
Case, in a YouTube video posted on his campaign website, said he's the best prepared candidate to succeed Abercrombie, who is running governor after his 11th term in the House.
"Congressman Abercrombie's departure leaves a huge puka in our congressional delegation at a critical time for our Hawaii and country," Case said, referring to the Hawaiian word for "hole."
"And we must fill it without missing a beat. I can put my seniority, experience and relationships in D.C. to work on our challenges from day one," Case said.
Case said his priority in Congress would be the economy.
"Everything else, from balancing our budget to protecting our country to taking care of ourselves and our aina (land), depends on that," he said.
Abercrombie announced earlier this month that he will seek to succeed Hawaii Gov. Linda Lingle (R), who can't run for a third term. |
