DescriptionState Sen. Jack Goodman, R-Mount Vernon, has announced his candidacy for the 7th District congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Roy Blunt in 2010.

As part of a three-day tour across the district, Goodman kicked off his campaign to replace Blunt in the U.S. House at an event in Joplin this morning. He held an 11 a.m. event at Mount Vernon's city hall.

At 1:30 p.m., Goodman will tout his candidacy in Springfield at the Discovery Center on St. Louis Street.

Goodman also is planning other campaign kick-off events Saturday in Bolivar and Ozark and on Monday in Cassville, Pineville and Neosho.

Goodman, 35, was first elected to the state House in 2002 and won a special election to the Senate in 2005. He represents the Barry, Lawrence, McDonald, Ozark, Stone and Taney counties — nearly half of the 10-county 7th Congressional District.
