Description | AP.
"Californians will be headed back to the polls this May if lawmakers approve a fix to the state's budget deficit later Saturday.
The plan to balance the $42 billion budget deficit through June 2010 includes several measures that need voter approval.
They include creating a state spending cap and rainy day fund, modifying the minimum funding guarantee for schools, changing the state lottery and shifting money from mental health and child-development programs.
The Assembly speaker's office said Saturday that the special election will be May 19.
It will mean Californians will have voted in a statewide election every year but one since 2002.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger called the last statewide special election in 2005. Voters rejected all eight ballot measures that year." |
