Description | Senator Roland W. Burris, the replacement for President Obama appointed by disgraced former Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich in Illinois, gave a passionate defense of his integrity during an appearance before the City Club of Chicago today. It might be the last we hear from him for awhile as he undergoes multiple investigations into whether he was truthful about his dealings with Mr. Blagojevich in the lead-up to his appointment.
Mr. Burris’s version of his discussions with Mr. Blagojevich those close to him has changed several times, and he revealed on Monday that he unsuccessfully tried to raise money for the governor, at the request of his brother, at the same time he was seeking an appointment to the seat Mr. Obama vacated.
That led The Chicago Tribune and The Washington Post to call for his resignation in this morning’s editions.
