DescriptionHope, yes - hops, no.

The feds turned off the tap on a Brooklyn microbrewery's Obama-themed beer, claiming it is improper to use the President's name to market suds without permission.

Red Hook-based Sixpoint Craft Ales had already stopped making Hop Obama beer when agents from the Tax and Trade Bureau, which regulates booze, told it to can the Barack beer.

"It's no big deal," said Sixpoint brewmaster Shane Welch. "We were contacted and told that we could no longer make it."

The small brewery produced just 504 kegs of the beer, which never made the obvious transition to "Yes We Can" six-packs.

Most of the beer was gulped down on Election Night. A few kegs were squirreled away for Inauguration Day parties.

A slice of the profits went to get-out-the-vote efforts, and Sixpoint owners said they long planned to discontinue production after the election.

They got a big push when federal regulators quietly told the trendy beer maker they had incorrectly given it permission for the name last February.

The brew-haha spread yesterday when it was posted on the Brownstoner.com Web site.
