DescriptionAUSTIN -- Senior Republican state Sen. Bill Ratliff announced this morning that he will resign his seat on Jan. 10 midway through his four-year term.

Ratliff made the announcement during a press conference in his hometown of Mount Pleasant. Ratliff has another press conference scheduled Wednesday afternoon at the Capitol in Austin.

Ratliff, who has served in the Senate since 1989, said this was "his time for going out."

Ratliff had suggested in the past that he might leave the Senate before his term expires in January 2007.
