Description | The road to the leadership of the New Democratic Party passes right through women such as Downtown Eastside activist Samantha Monckton.
Monckton, one of eight delegates elected at a nominating meeting last month in Vancouver-Mount Pleasant, is about as grass-roots NDP as they come.
She's known by just about all the 22 other NDPers who appeared to choose delegates to represent the constituency at this week's leadership convention. By Sunday, they will have chosen a successor to current leader Joy MacPhail.
Monckton, 32, nominated herself to be a delegate, and in a brief statement to the group of friends simply said she wanted to represent "chicks my age and of my stature. If you don't mind, send me and I'll look after myself."
