DescriptionThe Internal Revenue Service has filed a $75,771 tax lien against Monroe City Judge Tammy Lee for six years of unpaid income taxes.

The lien was filed last week with the Ouachita Parish Clerk of Court in Monroe.

According to the tax lien, Lee owes taxes for 2001 through 2006. No other tax liens against Lee have been filed with the Ouachita Parish clerk of court.

Failure to pay income tax can lead to federal felony or misdemeanor charges, and in Lee's case, another suspension or even removal from the bench by the state Judiciary Commission.

It was a Judiciary Commission report that led to Lee's 2006 suspension by the state Supreme Court for judicial misconduct.

The lien shows Lee owes the following income taxes: $6,284.05 for 2001; $16,629.86 for 2002; $19,248.45 for 2003; $15,368.50 for 2004; $15,203 for 2005; and $3,037.11 for 2006.

A tax lien is a notice by the IRS that taxes, including penalties and interest, have been assessed. The lien is a claim against all property and rights to property belonging to Lee.
