Description | This afternoon, a special ad hoc committee of Dallas City Council members is slated to decide what to include in an expanded smoking ordinance proposal to the full council.
Last Monday, the council's committee did a lot of talking -- and disagreed a good bit, too -- but reserved until today a final recommendation on what smoking practices to ban and what to keep legal.
At this juncture, it appears that banning smoking inside bars and pool halls is likely to make the council committee's cut.
Prohibiting smoking inside passenger cars where children are present, or city parks and other outdoor areas? Probably not, based on a point-by-point survey council members conducted among themselves at last Monday's meeting.
The meeting begins at 4 p.m. at room 6E South within Dallas City Hall.
We're expecting quite a turnout from both opponents and supporters of expanding Dallas' current smoking ordinance, which prohibits puffing in most workplaces and restaurants, but exempts bars, pool halls and almost anywhere outdoors.
In recent weeks, both sides have been notably active in lobbying for their cause. |
