WWL Poll shows Landrieu with large lead over Kennedy

| Description | A new exclusive WWL-TV poll shows U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu with a decisive lead in her race for re-election, outperforming challenger John Kennedy by more than 15 points.
The telephone poll of 500 registered voters in Louisiana by pollster Ed Renwick shows Landrieu with 49 percent of the vote, to Kennedy’s 34 percent.
“That’s 15 points, a gigantic difference,” said Renwick.
Landrieu scores 79 percent of the African-American vote in the survey, while Kennedy earns only 8 percent. The incumbent Democrat receives 36 percent of the white vote, while her Republican challenger captures 46 percent.
“Kennedy only has 46 percent of the white vote, and he's got all of the black vote to contend with,” Renwick said.
“I mean how is he going to win? He has a tremendous problem,” he added.
When it comes to favorability, those voters surveyed give Landrieu 52 percent. Kennedy has a 30 percent favorable rating, while 39 percent give him a ‘not very favorable’ rating, compared to Landrieu’s 28 percent ‘not very favorable’ score.
“It isn't that surprising,” according to Renwick, “because his campaign simply has never caught on. And her campaign has caught on. And you can see it.”
The statewide telephone poll, conducted October 24 through 26, after the WWL-TV debate, reveals 88 percent of the voters questioned are either extremely or very interested in Tuesday's election. Renwick predicts a turnout of 70 percent or more on November 4. |
