Description | "If any political candidate who suffered defeat Tuesday, regardless of party, wants a lesson in how to do better next time, he or she should study the example set by Assemblyman-elect Bill Baroni.
Mr. Baroni, a Republican, defeated incumbent Democratic Assemblyman Gary Guear Jr., in the 14th District, which is anchored by Hamilton Township. This, in itself, was a unique achievement; no other Republican candidate anywhere in New Jersey succeeded in ousting an incumbent Democratic legislator. Moreover, to elect Mr. Baroni, the district's voters had to split their Assembly ticket, re-electing their other representative, Democrat Linda Greenstein. Voters hardly ever practice that kind of election-booth selectivity."
