STONEWALL, Texas – It's just the kind of party Lyndon Johnson would have loved.

On Wednesday, the Lyndon B. Johnson state and national historic parks will celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth by opening the Texas White House to the public.

Thanks to former park curator Libby Hulett, who squirreled the furnishings away in NPS storage when Lady Bird converted her late husband's office into a family room in 1975, curator Virginia Kilby has returned the space to the way it was during LBJ's tumultuous presidential years (1963-68).

Gone are the brown shag carpeting and Muzak that LBJ favored.

But the original drapes are here, as are fluorescent light fixtures (now with energy-efficient bulbs), his aqua leather desk and a pillow with the words "This is my ranch and I do as I damn please."
