Description | After a setback earlier this year, David Orchard has returned to win the Liberal party nomination for the federal riding of Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River.
With Joan Beatty as their candidate, the Liberals lost the seat to the Conservatives in a byelection this spring. The riding covers the northern half of the province.
Before that campaign got underway, there was infighting within the Liberals after the party leader Stéphane Dion short-circuited the nomination process and appointed Beatty, a former provincial NDP cabinet minister.
People who backed Orchard complained the appointment was undemocratic.
This time, Orchard and Beatty went head to head for the nomination and Orchard came out on top. |
