Description | TALLAHASSEE - A proposal that would cut property taxes substantially while triggering increases in other levies is off the Nov. 4 ballot -- for now.
The high-stakes, time-crunched legal battle to determine whether the so-called tax swap is put before voters might head next to the Florida Supreme Court.
Hours after Leon County Circuit Judge John Cooper's Thursday decision removed Amendment 5 from the ballot, the initiative's supporters had an appeal in hand.
Cooper ruled the amendment's ballot summary was misleading because it didn't inform voters about the potential effect on school funding, but he's not likely to have the last word. |
