Description | Kathleen Blanco continues to implode as a gubernatorial candidate while, for now, Bobby Jindal continues to make all the right moves.
A couple of polls on behalf of Republican-aligned partisan organizations last week showed Jindal taking his first substantive lead. Good news for Jindal, but cautionary given the small leads in both and natural inclination to distrust polls, no matter how well done they may be, commissioned by partisan organizations.
Then came independent pollster Verne Kennedy’s showing Jindal at nearly 50 percent with a double-digit lead, which may have surprised everybody except Jindal’s campaign and regular readers of this column. This merely confirmed recent trends, and was predictable given that Jindal has followed the optimal strategy: do not backtrack towards the political center but to continue to stress a conservative agenda the likes of which never has been implemented in Louisiana. Given the state’s problems, a (relatively) radical agenda promoted by a political outsider will win the day. |
