Description | A 39-year-old man was found guilty Tuesday night of mugging former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun last year near her Hyde Park home.
It took a Cook County jury just four hours to decide that Joseph Dixon was guilty of attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery, said John Gorman, a spokesman for Cook County State's Attorney Dick Devine.
Dixon is facing up to 30 years in prison when he's sentenced on July 7.
Dixon attacked Braun the night of April 27, 2007, in Hyde Park, as the former senator came home from a theater performance. Braun got out of her car wearing a purse with the strap over her chest, prosecutors said.
Dixon approached and tried to snatch the purse -- but because it was slung over her shoulder he couldn't easily take it.
He took out a knife to cut the strap, wounding Braun's finger. She fell to ground, breaking her wrist. |
