Description | Two days after being convicted on charges of conspiracy and bribery, Oklahoma State Auditor Jeff McMahan has resigned.
Gov. Brad Henry's office confirmed that McMahan issued his letter of resignation early Monday.
"(Henry) believes it is critical to restore public trust in the auditor's position, and he will move carefully and as expeditiously as possible to select an individual who can do just that."
A federal jury took a day and a half to deliberate before convicting McMahan and his wife Saturday on seven charges.
The charges stemmed from the McMahans' association with southeast Oklahoma businessman Steve Phipps and could mean prison terms for them. |
