Description | A day after a Phoenix memorial service for state Sen. Jake Flake, a citizens panel Thursday settled on three possible replacements to fill the vacancy left by the Snowflake Republican's death.
The Navajo County Board of Supervisors, which created the panel, is expected to consider the recommendations and appoint Flake's replacement Friday afternoon.
In the panel's order of preference, the three nominees are:
• Sylvia Tenney Allen of Snowflake, a real estate agent and former Navajo County Republican Party chairwoman. She has made several unsuccessful bids to unseat Rep. Jack Brown, a Democrat, and again is a candidate for the House seat for the Sept. 2 primary. Allen is also the aunt of Navajo County Supervisor David Tenney.
• Gerry Whipple, a Show Low City Council member and former mayor who also serves on the Arizona League of Cities and Towns' Governing Board.
• Charlie Hendrickson, a Snowflake City Council member who is Arizona Public Service Co.'s regional manager in Snowflake. |
