Description | The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Friday shows what may be the beginning of a bounce for Barack Obama. Obama now attracts 45% of the vote while John McCain earns 40%. That five-point lead for Obama is up from a two-point advantage over the past couple of days. Before that, for much of last week, McCain had enjoyed a slight edge.
When “leaners” are included, Obama now leads 48% to 43%. Leaners are survey respondents who initially do not favor either candidate but indicate their support on a follow-up question (see daily results). One week ago today, McCain had the edge over Obama, 46% to 43%.
Many observers have long expected that Obama would gain ground in national polling after clinching the nomination. Still, as with any single day movement in a tracking poll, it remains to be seen whether today’s shift towards Obama signals a lasting change in the race or merely statistical noise. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll is based upon interviews with 1,000 Likely Voters each night and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. Tomorrow’s update will be the first based entirely upon interviews conducted since Obama clinched the nomination. |
