DescriptionPresenting herself as a "choice for change", state Rep. Able Mable Thomas (D - Atlanta) filed her qualifying papers and officially launched her campaign to unseat Congressman John Lewis in the July 15th General Primary.

In a rally on the steps of the State Capitol, Thomas was introduced as a "fearless woman" by former Atlanta City Councilman Derrick Boazman.

"This is an easy decision for me to be here," Boazman said. "You don't have to figure out where she stands or where she is. She's always with the people. We come to take back power and give it to the people."

After Boazman's introduction, State Rep. Thomas stepped up to mic and said she had decided to run after a "great deal of reflection" and touted the 2008 legislative session as her best session ever saying that she was a co-sponsor of the state-wide water plan (H.R.1022) and a bill that would provide a 50% homestead exemption for Fulton County senior citizens whose household income does not exceed 200 percent of the federal poverty level (H.B.1205).

She then launched into some criticisms of Congressman John Lewis asking the crowd gathered, "Where in the world has the incumbent been?"

"We have suffered too long," Thomas said. "The Congressman has not been missing in action, he's been missing from action.

"This is about change...change we can believe in," Thomas continued. "The word is out. I'm coming to get you."
