DescriptionA former state senator from Kansas City who was running for treasurer and a lesser-known governor’s candidate are among 14 people disqualified from the ballot by the Missouri Ethics Commission.

The commission says the candidates failed to file personal financial disclosure statements, as required by law.

Former Democratic Sen. Charlie Wheeler, of Kansas City, had filed to run for state treasurer.

Reached by phone on Monday, Wheeler acknowledged that he failed to submit the personal financial disclosure by the deadline, but said he planned to contest his disqualification.

Wheeler said he would file the paperwork necessary to reverse the commission’s ruling during a visit to Jefferson City on Tuesday.

Stacey Heislen, the interim director of the commission, said she believed Wheeler would have to petition the disqualification in Cole County Circuit Court.

Wheeler has since submitted the financial disclosure, he said.

Christina Anderson, of Springfield, had declared her candidacy for governor as a Democrat.

Also disqualified from the August primary ballot were eight candidates for the state House and four candidates for county offices.
