Description"On May 10, the Philadelphia Inquirer's top story heralded the indictment of nine members of the self-titled Moroccan Empire (a.k.a Moors), on charges of attempting to pass $50 million in fake money orders in the South Jersey area.

The indictment was announced at a press conference held at the Office of the Deputy United States Attorney (USA) for the Southern Vicinages of New Jersey, Lee Solomon. Lee's position as Deputy USA is a new concept, encompassing the Trenton district (Monmouth, Ocean,Mercer,Hunterdon and Somerset Counties) and the Camden district (Burlington to Cape May). Christopher J. Christie, the USA for the District of New Jersey, carved out these two Southern districts and gave Lee the responsibility to deal with the day to day matters in those locations; Christie is ultimately in charge of all the offices. Prior to the creation of the Deputy spot, all South Jersey's federal criminal matters were handled by Christie's Newark Office, on top of an enormous load emanating from Northern and Central New Jersey. Lee recalls, "I met Chris in 1992, when I ran for Congress. And I knew his law partner pretty well through the Whitman administration over the years. Chris was public about the idea of creating a position to oversee South Jersey so that the front office would have a presence and he would have resources down here. He was going to make a commitment to South Jersey because there was talk about splitting the District because South Jersey wasn't getting the law enforcement attention and the judicial attention that it should have been getting." Lee was nearing the end of his term as Camden County Prosecutor and looking for work in the private sector, when he heard from Chris. "I got a call literally out of the blue from Chris and he wanted to sit down and have lunch with me. He asked if I would consider the position if it was created." Lee was cognizant of the remuneration he was sacrificing by taking on another government job, but he was certain he wanted to be the Deputy. "Everybody talks about private practice, and I do have kids going to college-I'm probably very good for the economy, the way I live my life. I like what I do and I want to look forward to going to work in the morning and I want to make a contribution. I had a couple of long conversations with my wife about it, that it was going to be hard, it was going to be a struggle and she said that I should do what makes me happy.""
