Description | Sometimes elections touted as cliffhangers live up to their billing. Sometimes, they don't.
One race that could go either way is the reelection bid of U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, tagged by national analysts as the most vulnerable Democratic incumbent in what's expected to be an otherwise banner year for her party.
Everyone who follows Louisiana politics knows how Landrieu got there.
She's been elected to the Senate twice, but by narrow margins and against two weak opponents.
And that was before the post-hurricane population shift prompted an already Republican-leaning state to list even further to the right. Adding to Landrieu's potential woes is the fact that popular state Treasurer John Kennedy, recruited to challenge Landrieu by the highest GOP forces in the land, is almost nobody's idea of a weak opponent.
Still, this is one of those races that may not be as competitive as GOP forces hope. |
