Barack Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton notices the trend and writes reporters, "With 92% reporting in Virginia, Obama is now 102,000 votes ahead of all Republicans combined."
According to the A.P. results, with 92 percent of precincts reporting, Obama had won 545,811 votes, to a combined total of 440,756 votes for John McCain, Mike Huckabee and the other GOP contenders.
Burton's implication is clear: Should turnout skew that heavily in the Democratic direction come November, Virginia will be a red state no more. |
