Bay State Republicans gathered yesterday at the State House to announce their support for the senator from Illinois.
Not that senator from Illinois.
The tall one, with the hat, who turns 199 today.
Members of the Middlesex Club - who say the club, founded in 1867, is the oldest Republican organization in the country - brought their love of the first Republican president to Beacon Hill yesterday, asking lawmakers to establish an Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission to plan events for Lincoln's 200th birthday next year. Sparing no expense, they brought a 6-foot, 11-inch Lincoln impersonator, George Cheevers, to read excerpts from Lincoln's speeches. ("I was 6-foot-4 when I was president," he explained, in character.) |
