DescriptionFirst, Aaron Schock was too young for the school board. Then he was too young for the state legislature. Soon people might be complaining that the 26-year-old is too young for Congress.

Schock won the Republican nomination Tuesday for a central Illinois congressional seat. If he’s elected — he has no Democratic opponent at the moment — Schock would become the youngest member of Congress.

Right now, the youngest member of Congress is 32-year-old Patrick McHenry, a North Carolina Republican. McHenry, who has been stumping for Schock, was elected when he was 29. The minimum age requirement to serve in the House is 25.

Schock’s age has been attracting attention for years.

At 19, he won a write-in campaign and became the youngest person serving on an Illinois school board. He unseated an eight-year incumbent in 2005 to become one of the state’s youngest legislators on record.

He has flourished in each office and when Rep. Ray LaHood announced his retirement, Schock decided to run for Congress. He captured 71 percent of the primary vote over two opponents.
