Description | Sen. Don Nickles (R-Okla.), who announced last week that he would not seek a fifth term, told The Hill Tuesday he is backing Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys’ bid to replace him.
“I have encouraged [Hum-phreys] to get into the race,” said Nickles, back in Washington for the first time since making his announcement in Oklahoma. “He’s a very good friend. I think very highly of him, [but] I usually stay out of primaries.”
Nickles’s comments came one day after Oklahoma’s junior senator, James Inhofe (R), endorsed Humphreys. Inhofe will serve as honorary chairman of Hum-phreys’s campaign, Humphreys spokesman Rick Buchanan said. |
