Description | NEW YORK - After a week of race-related acrimony between the Clinton and Obama camps, Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama sought Monday to tamp down the unpleasantries and lower the temperature of the Democratic presidential race.
The campaign was roiled by Clinton's remark last week that Martin Luther King Jr.'s dream of racial equality became a reality only when President Lyndon Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Many civil rights leaders and Obama supporters complained that Clinton was downplaying King's legacy.
On Monday, both candidates took the high road. |
