Description | Greensboro resident Kay Hagan, a state senator and one of the most influential members of the Triad legislative delegation, will run for the U.S. Senate after all, she said Tuesday.
In an e-mail, Hagan, a Democrat, said she was officially launching her bid to unseat Republican incumbent Elizabeth Dole. A couple of weeks ago, Hagan announced that she would not run, though she has been courted by party leaders for months. They apparently kept courting.
"To make a difference in North Carolina, we need a change in Washington," Hagan said in the e-mail Tuesday. "We need a senator to make our voice heard. We need a senator who will stand up, lead and make a difference."
Hagan has launched a Web site for her candidacy at www.kayhagan.com and said she plans a tour of the state in the coming weeks. The election will be in November 2008. |
