| Description | OTTAWA - Newly re-elected Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty wasted no time returning the favour to Ontario voters Thursday, kicking off his second straight four-year term with a promised new statutory holiday in February that takes effect next year.
McGuinty said the Liberal cabinet would approve regulations within the day to establish Family Day on the third Monday each February - a badly needed break from the hectic pace of what the premier calls Ontario's "just-in-time" lifestyle.
"There's a lot of noise in life, but there is nothing more important than time with those people who are most important to us," McGuinty said.
"This is a small thing, but it's an important - and I think a powerful - recognition (that) our priorities are the priorities of families."
Voters gave the Liberals 71 seats in the 107-seat legislature, one fewer than McGuinty's team won in 2003, when there were just 103 seats up for grabs. |
