Description | TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Democratic state Sen. John Adler on Thursday announced he will challenge incumbent Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Saxton in 2008 for a South Jersey Congressional seat.
Adler, a state senator since 1992, said Saxton, a supporter of the Iraq war, has grown too beholden to President Bush.
"Last November, the American people sent a clear message to Washington that we want a change in direction in Iraq and here at home," Adler said. "Unfortunately our congressman, Jim Saxton, refuses to listen. It's time for a change."
The 48-year-old Cherry Hill resident and Harvard Law School graduate has been chairman of the influential Senate Judiciary Committee that weighs judicial and prosecutorial appointments and ethics reforms. |
