DescriptionDarin LaHood, the 39-year-old son of U.S. Rep. Ray LaHood, said Thursday he’s formed an exploratory committee to run for the congressional seat being given up by his father.

“I’m getting very close to making a decision to run for this congressional district,” Darin LaHood said as he attended a GOP breakfast in Springfield on Republican Day at the Illinois State Fair. He is a Peoria lawyer.

The younger LaHood said voters want “people that have experience to get into this race, and at this point, I don’t think they’re satisfied with the candidates who have announced.”

One of those candidates is 26-year-old state Rep. Aaron Schock of Peoria, who was also at the breakfast. The event at the Crowne Plaza was hosted by the GOP County Chairman’s Association and the Republican State Central Committee.
