Description | Lawmakers will have one less name to skip over on Friday when they meet to elect Rep. Converse Chellis the new state treasurer.
Spartanburg CPA Chuck Talbert, who announced last week that he would seek the vacancy created by Thomas Ravenel's resignation, said Tuesday he'll drop his bid.
"It seems to be a forgone conclusion, so I'm going to respectfully back away," Talbert said. "The race is too far along, and frankly it was too far along before the vacancy even existed."
Ravenel, who was elected in November 2006, resigned last week after an appearance in federal court in Columbia. The multi-millionaire developer was charged in June with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute cocaine. |
