| Description | State House Speaker Marty Stephens, a self-described pragmatic conservative, says he is in the race for Utah governor.
"Many times conservatives sacrifice the good for the perfect," says Stephens. "I'm more somebody who gets things done and moves things forward, although very much in the conservative spectrum."
A 15-year veteran of the Legislature, Stephens is counting on the Republican-controlled Legislature as an important base of support. The 78 GOP lawmakers represent districts throughout the state and are considered opinion leaders within their own communities.
