Description | TAVARES - Lake County commissioners voted Tuesday to hold up part of the construction for Plaza Collina and to ask state planners for an additional review after angry residents complained about the large shopping center.
Opposition is growing against Plaza Collina and plans to include a Wal-Mart Supercenter on a mile-long strip of land along busy State Road 50 near Clermont.
Many argue that the world's largest retailer does not fit the upscale shopping originally pledged for Plaza Collina. Some are worried about aesthetic impacts from plans to remove 1,500 trees -- many close to the South Lake Trail recreational corridor. Others say the entire project has simply changed too much from what the county approved. |
