DescriptionThe state of Kansas was recognized Friday for the way it supports state employees who serve in the Kansas National Guard and Reserve.

The Kansas Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve presented the Pro Patria Award to the state during a 10 a.m. news conference Friday.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius accepted the award on behalf of the state.

Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting voiced his appreciation for the continuous support from the state and Sebelius.

"The governor came to me and said, 'What do I need to do to be a model employer?'" Bunting said.

Sebelius expressed her gratitude at the conference and said, "It's been an opportunity to work with some incredibly wonderful men and women."
