Description | Is that the stink of corruption I smell in Brooklyn?
Thursday, June 14th 2007, 4:00 AM
The mighty Kings County Democratic machine, lately brought low by a series of judicial scandals - and the spectacle of ex-party boss Clarence Norman being sent to prison last week - is trying to recover from its past and run a clean race this summer for Brooklyn surrogate.
If the party can run a straightforward contest, free of backroom deals, it could signal a step away from the greed and scandal of the recent past.
But reformers are already raising complaints about Judge ShawnDya Simpson, a candidate favored by Assemblyman Vito Lopez, the party chairman - and threatening to go to court to try to disqualify Simpson from running. |
