DescriptionThe 1st Brigade of the Multi-National Force (MNF), composed of 500 British soldiers, will pull out of Iraq by the end of 2007, a military spokeswoman said on Sunday.

"December 2007 will see 500 British soldiers withdrawing from Iraq as scheduled," Capt. Katie Brown, the spokeswoman for the MNF in southern Iraq, told the independent news agency Voices of Iraq (VOI).

"We intend to hand over security responsibilities in Basra province to Iraqi forces this summer. Our role then will be confined to providing backup to Iraqi forces," said Brown.
