DescriptionN.C. Rep. Brad Miller, still weighing a possible run for the Senate, said Friday that Republican Sen. Elizabeth Dole is vulnerable and will be one of the Democratic Party's top targets in 2008.

Miller, who has struggled to decide whether to take on Dole or stay in the House, said Democratic leaders have assured him that Dole will be one of 10 targeted Senate seats in the upcoming election.

"She still has the celebrity status that she had six years ago," Miller said Friday as he began a week of visiting various spots across North Carolina. "But I think people want more than just a celebrity. They are very dissatisfied with the direction of the nation's politics."

Miller, a third-term Democrat in a comfortable district that stretches from parts of Raleigh to parts of Greensboro, also said a Senate seat would allow him to be involved in more issues facing Congress.

The Senate has an equal number of Democrats and Republicans, although two independents usually vote with the Democrats.

"The Senate campaign next year is very important to the state and very important to the country," Miller said, adding that he also questions the idea of surrendering his House seat.

Miller has become the Democratic leader in battling predatory lending - his crusade since he arrived in Washington.
