| Description | WASHINGTON: Republican Fred Thompson, a television and movie actor and former U.S. senator, is methodically moving ahead toward a likely presidential candidacy, several officials with knowledge of the plans said Wednesday.
An all-but-declared candidate for months, Thompson will form an entity next week, while launching his first major fundraising effort, to judge the viability of a campaign. He also may visit early primary election states in late June and could officially enter the race as early as the first week in July, according to the officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the plans were not public. |
