Description | Painting himself as an optimistic outsider, Scott Smith this week launched a bid to become Mesa's next mayor.
The former home builder has some heavy-hitting help: Former U.S. Rep. Matt Salmon, who narrowly lost the 2002 election for governor, is his campaign chairman.
Smith, 51, is heavily involved in Mesa United Way and chaired the 2006-07 fundraising campaign. He was president of Great Western Homes before selling the firm in 2003, and has owned several fast-food restaurants. More recently he was regional president for New Jersey-based K. Hovnanian Homes before leaving that company in January to become a consultant. |
