Description | WASHINGTON — Rarely could you find conservative former House Republican Speaker Newt Gingrich, R-Ga., and liberal U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., standing on the same side of an issue —until now.
Gingrich and other former House leaders have filed friend-of-the-court briefs backing Jefferson’s contention that the raid of his congressional office by the FBI last year was unconstitutional.
Gingrich has been joined by former House Speaker Thomas Foley, D-Wash.; former House Minority leader Robert Michel, R-Ill.; and Scott Palmer, former chief of staff for Rep. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill.
