DescriptionThree legislators with ties to organizations that received $3.4 million in special grants were subpoenaed yesterday in connection with an expanding federal corruption probe of the Statehouse.

Those served were Assemblyman Brian Stack, D-Union City, Sen. Nicholas Scutari, D-Linden, and Sen. Joseph Coniglio, D-Bergen. All had family or employment connections with the grant recipients, which included a major medical center and a Union City day care.

As the same time, sources familiar with the investigation say federal prosecutors also are looking into campaign contributions given to the state's Democratic Party chairman by two other nonprofit groups, which received another $2.1 million in legislative grants. The sources requested anonymity because the investigation is ongoing.
